New Update Released (1.27) + Windows VST Release

WAX 1.27 Is Here: Windows Support, Projects & a Smarter Workflow

We’re excited to announce WAX 1.27, our biggest update yet, bringing powerful workflow improvements, deeper integration with web audio applications, and the official release of Windows VST support.

Whether you’re building Web Audio experiences or using WAX as a creative platform inside your DAW, this release makes the experience faster, cleaner, and more capable than ever.

Windows VST Now Available

WAX is now officially available as a Windows VST plugin, bringing the WAX ecosystem to even more producers and developers.

You can now load Web Audio applications directly inside your favorite Windows DAW with the same seamless experience available on macOS. Use WAX as an instrument, audio effect or MIDI device.

New Projects Feature

One of the biggest additions in 1.27 is Projects.

Projects allow you to open a local folder as a self-contained web application. WAX serves the folder through its integrated local server, allowing it to behave much like a hosted website while remaining entirely on your computer.

This provides a much smoother development experience by:

  • Serving local HTML, CSS and JavaScript files as a complete application
  • Supporting modern browser APIs that expect an HTTP origin
  • Eliminating many common CORS and local file access restrictions
  • Allowing projects to be edited with your preferred code editor while instantly reflecting changes inside WAX

Whether you’re building synths, effects, visualizers or complete Web Audio applications, Projects creates a far more natural workflow for local development and testing.

Open Local HTML Files

WAX also supports opening individual HTML files directly from your computer, making it quick and convenient to test standalone pages without creating a project.

When opened this way, the page runs using the browser’s native file:// protocol. This is suitable for many simple applications, but it’s important to understand that modern browsers apply additional security restrictions to pages loaded from the local file system.

As a result, applications that load external resources, fetch local files, use modules, or rely on certain Web APIs may encounter CORS or file access restrictions that would not exist when running from a web server.

For the most reliable development experience, we recommend using the Projects feature. Projects serve your application through WAX’s built-in local server, providing an HTTP origin that more closely matches a production environment. This eliminates many common CORS limitations and ensures better compatibility with modern Web Audio applications and development workflows.

Redesigned Home Screen

The WAX Home screen has been completely redesigned to make navigation faster and improve app discovery.

Highlights include:

  • Quick access to Projects
  • One-click Favorites
  • Custom Pages for your own curated experiences
  • Improved browsing and discovery of WAX-compatible applications
  • Theme Picker for choosing the interface appearance that best suits your workflow

The result is a cleaner starting point that gets you where you want to be with fewer clicks.

Tighter Integrations

Version 1.26 introduces a range of under-the-hood improvements that make WAX feel more integrated throughout your workflow.

These refinements improve communication between WAX and hosted web applications, creating a smoother experience whether you’re launching existing apps or developing your own.

While many of these changes happen behind the scenes, they contribute to a faster, more reliable and more seamless experience.

A Better Foundation for Web Audio

Every WAX release moves us closer to making Web Audio a first-class platform inside professional music production environments.

Version 1.27 continues that mission by improving development workflows, expanding platform support, and making it easier than ever to discover, build and run powerful Web Audio applications directly inside your DAW.

As always, thank you to everyone in the community for your feedback and support. We’re excited to see what you create next with WAX.
